Loon & Dakota

Loon is an Arctic wolf and husky mix. She got her name from the noise she makes when she howls as she sounds like a loon. She was born in May 2012. Dakota is an Alaskan malamute and gray wolf mix. Dakota means “friend” or “ally” in Native American. He was born in May 2010. He is completely blind.

Loon and Dakota were rescued together on an episode of North Woods Law and joined our pack in 2013.

Okami

Okami is a Siberian husky, gray wolf, Alaskan malamute, and German shepherd mix. He came to our sanctuary as a 10-month old pup in November 2021 when his previous companion could no longer care for him. Okami can mean either “great god” (大神) or “wolf” (狼) in Japanese. He was born in January 2021.

Sakari & Kaiah

Sakari

Sakari and Kaiah were rescued from a shelter down South and arrived at the sanctuary in February 2022. Referred to endearingly by volunteers and our wonderful vet as the “Spice Girls,” they are German shepherd, Alaskan malamute, gray wolf, and Belgian sheepdog mixes. Sakari means “sweet” in Native American and Kaiah means “little but wise” in Native American and “pure” in Greek. They were born in October 2020.

Howl

Howl, our newest resident wolfdog, is a husky, gray wolf, Alaskan malamute and German shepherd mix. He came to us from RISPCA in September 2023. He is named for his distinct voice and can be found zipping around the yards at WOMS at full speed or digging holes in search of critters. He was born in June 2016. We are looking forward to working with him and helping him adjust to his new life here at WOMS.
